Pizza & Beer – a very simple yet undeniably great combination. And Cogan’s Pizza does it better than anyone in the Hampton Roads area. Open daily for lunch, dinner, and late-night dining, Cogan’s is a favorite amongst neighborhood locals, particularly on Sunday when their $5.00 pizza deal packs the restaurant with patrons looking to end the weekend on a good note. All of their pizzas are hand-tossed; you can see the chefs throwing dough in the air just as you walk in the door. The menu also contains other tasty Italian-American sandwiches, salads, and other entrees but most folks never make it past the pizza selections on the back. For the more adventurous, pizza with Cogan’s spicy sauce adds to the already phenomenal taste.

While pizza may be an easy choice on the food menu, selecting one item off the drink menu many not be as easy. Cogan’s offers 33 different beers from around the world on tap every day and has many, many more in bottles. Whether you’re looking for specialty beers or just some regular ole domestics, you can find them all at Cogan’s. And if they’re on tap, you can get them in a pitcher to share with friends.

A decade ago, Cogan’s was a locals bar featuring live bands. Nowadays the stage has been replaced by dining tables and the backroom converted into a game room complete with pool table, air hockey table, and pinball. The new décor can probably be best described as golden age science-fiction with space cartoons painted on the walls and antique toys and eclectic art scattered throughout (just look at the logo above!). The inside can sometimes get smoky during the peak drinking hours as the bar and dining tables are all in the same large room. But refuge is not far away on the outdoor patio, which is heated by gas lamps in the winter time to make it fully functional year round. For those not within reasonable walking or driving distance of the Cogan’s in Ghent, there is also a new location in northern Suffolk and both locations offer pizza delivery.

Cogan's Pizza has been a participating location on all Ghent Bar Tours held to date. All proceeds from these events benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Eastern Virginia (local Hampton Roads chapter).
