Plaza del Sol brings a true Mexican flavor to the Ghent restaurant scene that has been conspicuously missing for quite some time. Serving up freshly prepared and authentic dishes culled from a menu that is five pages long and full of family recipes, this restaurant promises to offer everyone some sort of Mexican dish that they can enjoy. Appetizers, salads, nachos, mixed dishes, quesadillas, beef, chicken, seafood, enchiladas, children’s plates, and vegetarian options are all available for your sampling here. And with the quantity and quality of the food you get, the price you pay is easy on the wallet. Add on one of the top shelf hand-shaken margaritas, a shot of tequila, or one of the other drinks to complete any visit. The service is very friendly, which should be expected from a family owned business. You will most likely bump into mother, son, sister, or all three on any given night here.
All of the restaurant’s furnishings and decor are imported from Mexico. There are three seating areas available to guests: the main eating galley with both chairs and booths, the bar area with two flat-screen TVs, and the large outdoor patio. Non-smokers and families will be excited to know that all of the indoor seating is entirely smoke-free. Big plans are in the works for the outdoor patio once spring arrives. Until that time, the restaurant will be keeping spirits alive through the winter with a weekly karaoke night.
Plaza del Sol is a new participating location on the 2008 Ghent Winter Bar Tour planned for February 23rd, 2008. All proceeds from these events benefitted the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Eastern Virginia (local Hampton Roads chapter).
